Look into my Eyes

It’s been said that the eyes are the window to the soul.  The eyes tell when you are sick, sad and happy.  When a child looks into your eyes, he is seeing your heart.  It is so important to train your child to look at you when you are speaking to him or her.  So many children are easily distracted, I have a few of these, and when I tell them “to look into my eyes” they are more prone to focus their attention on me and not on something else.  I have been doing this for almost 14 years and I have realized it works!  My children are more responsive and obedient when they are looking into my eyes when we are communicating.

When they are older and speaking with another family member or co-worker they will most likely continue this practice because it will have become a habit.   They will be more effective communicators and better friends.

It takes discipline on our part to constantly communicate how important it is for them to “look into your eyes”.  Children require a lot of repetition so do not get frustrated if you have to remind them 10 times a day!

Have you found other ways to get your kids attention (other than screaming!)?
